2023: Veterinary Operations That Defined a Year of Conservation

As we reflect on 2023, join us in revisiting some remarkable moments in our ongoing mission to protect and preserve Mozambique's wild fauna. Let's take a closer look at the impactful moments that shaped our veterinary pillar!

Our veterinarian operations have been the heartbeat of our conservation efforts, and we're excited to share a quick snapshot of the impact we've achieved, thanks to your unwavering support.

By the Numbers:

🏥 33 Treatment Operations

🚚 66 Translocation Operations

📡 134 Collaring Operations

🔨 11 Dehorning Operations

Diverse Wildlife, Diverse Operations:

Our veterinary team worked tirelessly across species, from majestic rhinos to elusive pangolins. In 2023, we had the privilege of caring for black and white rhinos, buffalos, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, lions, leopards, pangolins, ungulates, wild dogs, and more.

The year concluded with the successful rescue of a young African Fishing Eagle in Maputo City, reflecting MWA's ongoing mission to ensure the well-being and conservation of Mozambique's invaluable wildlife.

Stories that Touched Our Hearts 🧡 :

🏥 Treatment: The wild story of a cheetah that got amputated in May 2022. Well, guess what? A year and three months later, we spotted her kicking it in the wild. This story leaves us feeling damn satisfied, and you bet it amps up our dedication to keeping wildlife safe and sound.

🚚 Translocation: Embarking on a daring rescue mission, our team, saved 11 African wild dogs from snares and human-wildlife conflict, employing precise capture techniques and securing their hopeful future in Gorongosa National Park.

📡 Collaring: One of the standout moments was when Eduardo, MWA's gardener, participated in an elephant collaring mission. His enthusiastic involvement not only added an unexpected dimension to the operation but also underscored the inclusive spirit of our conservation efforts.

Partnership Power:

None of this would be possible without our incredible partners, especially ANAC, who stood with us every step of the way. A heartfelt thank you to all institutions, partners, and stakeholders who continue to make a difference in wildlife conservation.

Looking Ahead to 2024:

As we step into 2024, our commitment to preserving Mozambique's wildlife remains stronger than ever. Together, we'll face new challenges, celebrate more victories, and continue to be the voice for those who can't speak for themselves.

Join us on this exciting journey. Let's make 2024 a year filled with more stories of triumph, resilience, and hope for our precious wildlife.

Thank you for being part of the Mozambique Wildlife Alliance family!
