Earlier this year, Dr. Benjamim Moda, one of MWA’s wildlife veterinarians, joined six other African vets for the Wildlife Veterinary Medicine and Chemical Immobilisation Course held in Namibia, from 1–12 June 2025.
The course - hosted by the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) in partnership with the University of Namibia’s School of Veterinary Medicine - aims to strengthen the capacity of young African wildlife vets to deliver effective fieldwork at local and national levels, ultimately improving conservation outcomes across the continent.
Training took place at GCF’s Etosha Heights Conservation Centre, adjacent to Etosha National Park, and combined intensive fieldwork with classroom instruction across key areas of wildlife medicine and immobilisation.
For Dr. Moda and other participants, this was not only a technical learning opportunity, but also a chance to build regional networks and exchange experiences from across Africa’s conservation landscapes.
We thank the Giraffe Conservation Foundation for investing in long-term capacity that directly strengthens conservation on the ground.
