On Saturday, a white rhino calf was found alone in southern Mozambique. Its mother had been lost, and with no protection, the calf was at immediate risk.

In partnership with the National Administration for Conservation Areas (ANAC), Kruger National Park, SANParks, and Care for Wild, our team at Mozambique Wildlife Alliance assisted with field stabilisation and coordinated the cross-border transfer.

The calf was stabilised on site by the veterinary team, then safely transported across the border to South Africa. Late that night, she arrived at Care for Wild, where she was immediately admitted into intensive care. She is now under constant monitoring and support.

White rhinos continue to face serious conservation pressure, particularly in transboundary areas. This operation highlights the role of fast response and coordination in addressing those challenges on the ground.

Thank you to all partners involved.
