A Muddy Rescue Mission

Is it ever too soon for a throwback when the story’s this good? Back in December, while our vet team was busy with a dehorning operation at Sabie Game Park, we got an unexpected call from Mbhatse Game Reserve. A mother elephant and her calf had gotten themselves stuck in the mud, and things were looking a little tricky.

Without hesitation, the team jumped into action with the Mbhatse team. Step one? Carefully dart the mom so we could safely get her out of the mud. With the help of some trusty tow straps and a tractor, they managed to pull her free. And once she was out, the team made sure her calf was right behind her, safely guided out of the sticky mess.

Thanks to quick teamwork and careful planning, the mother and calf were safely rescued and back on their way to safer ground. Another day of challenges met and resolved in the field!
