Safe Crops, Strong Communities

Last week, something unexpected happened in one of our Protected Farming Communities in Incomati Rengue, which shelters and supports 45 families. While farmers were hard at work tending their crops, a herd of over 20 buffalo came charging through the area, breaking part of the fence and leaving everyone in shock—especially the women working there with their babies.

In response, our team, joined efforts with the community to repair the broken section of the fence. Together, they worked tirelessly to restore this critical barrier that keeps crops safe from wildlife.

But here’s the real impact: despite the chaos, the community’s commitment to maintaining this elephant-proof fence paid off. Not only was the fence quickly repaired, but the community proudly showed us the corn they’d harvested, untouched by elephants, thanks to this protected space.

Conservation isn’t just about protecting wildlife—it’s about creating solutions that allow people and nature to thrive side by side. It’s about turning challenges into opportunities and building a future where both can coexist in harmony.

Big shoutout to the Rengue community for their dedication and resilience! Together, we’re proving that coexistence is possible.
