Elephant Collaring in Massingir

Mozambique Wildlife Alliance (MWA)'s veterinary team successfully carried out a one-day elephant collaring mission in the Cubo community and the buffer zone of Limpopo National Park (LNP). The operation involved the deployment of satellite collars on elephants in areas where Human–Wildlife Conflict remains a significant challenge for local communities.
By monitoring elephant movements in real time, these collars provide critical information that helps conservation teams anticipate elephant presence near farms and settlements, improve early warning systems, and support targeted mitigation measures on the ground.
While the procedure itself takes only a short time, the information generated can support years of conservation and Human–Wildlife Conflict mitigation efforts. Learn more about the process in our video: How We Collar Elephants to Promote Coexistence.
As wildlife populations recover and move through shared landscapes, understanding how elephants use these areas becomes increasingly important for reducing conflict and promoting coexistence between people and wildlife.
This intervention forms part of Mozambique Wildlife Alliance (MWA)'s ongoing efforts to combine technology, field operations, and community-based approaches to Human–Wildlife Conflict mitigation.
The operation was conducted in partnership with Zambeze Delta Conservation Safaris and Shikar-Safari Club International.
